Lola Butcher writes about health care policy and business issues for publications read by physicians and health care executives. Her long-time clients include Oncology Times, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Hospitals & Health Networks, Neurology Today, Physician Executive Journal, and Modern Healthcare. Butcher has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of Missouri and two master’s degrees—public administration and English—from University of Missouri-Kansas City. She and her husband, Andy, live in Springfield, Mo.; their daughter is a college freshman.

Her project reported on the migration of cancer care from physician-owned clinics and community centers to hospital outpatient departments, and how it affects patients, oncologists, hospitals, and payers, especially Medicare. Butcher's series is called "How Government Policies Have Increased the Cost of Cancer Care":
