Biography at time of Harkness Fellowship: Diane Bell, M.B. She also works as a public health consultant, and private sector clients include PricewaterhouseCoopers and the BMJ Group. Prior to her current position, Bell served as a consultant in public health medicine to Milton Keynes NHS Primary Care Trust, and as specialist registrar in public health medicine at Oxford Deanery. Bell holds a M.Sc. in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an M.B. B.S. from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School. She also holds a M.A. in natural sciences from Christ's College, University of Cambridge, where she was awarded the William Grieg prize for Natural Sciences.

Project: Diane Bell examined the attitudes of primary care doctors on the importance of “value” in how they practice medicine.  She also explored how external incentives and context impact doctors’ attitudes towards value.  She used a case study approach, interviewing doctors at three different health systems – one group-model integrated system, one safety net integrated system, and one independent practice association.
