Richard Gilfillan, M.D., a family practitioner, was the CEO of Trinity Health System from 2013 to 2019. Prior to that, he was a deputy administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation from 2010 to 2013. He has served in a variety of senior role across the industry including CEO of Geisinger Health Plan, senior vice president for national contracting at Coventry Health Plan, general manager of AmeriHealth New Jersey, and chief medical officer of Independence Blue Cross. Gilfillan is currently a volunteer and independent consultant for nonprofit organizations. He began his career as a family physician at the Winchendon Community Health Center.
