£1.5 million Set Aside to Expand Personal Health Care Budgets

The U.K. Department of Health has made £1.5 million available for a potential rollout of the personal health budget program now being piloted across the country. Following the results of an independent evaluation of the program which are due to be released this year, the government is planning on expanding the use of personal health budgets. Personal health budgets enable patients, along with health care professionals, to develop a care plan for organizing and using the money the NHS puts toward their care. Personal health budgets can be spent to cover any care or service that will benefit the patient, such as home care and gym services. Exceptions exist for emergency care and regular GP care, which is already covered under the NHS in other ways.
