Australian Government Announces Budget to Secure eHealth System's Future

As part of the 2012–13 budget, the Gillard government is investing AUS$233.7 million into the continued rollout of a national, secure eHealth system. Another AUS$50 million has been given to Medicare Locals, which are the networks that support regional health providers, training general practitioners in how to best use eHealth records. Starting in July, Australians will be able to register and create their own personal health record, which can then be shared across health care providers through a safe and secure national system.
