Sydney Reed is operations and creative director at Generation Patient, a pioneering nonprofit led by young adults with chronic conditions. Her journey into patient advocacy began when she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease during her teenage years, an experience that would lead her to cocreate impactful initiatives at Generation Patient, leveraging her lived experience to foster a supportive community and advocate for systemic change in health policy and higher education systems. Reed and her team at Generation Patient crafted articles that were published in a special collection of the peer-reviewed journal Health Care Transitions. The articles serve as vital resources for both patients and their care teams, offering insight into the unique experiences of young adult patients, identifying gaps in research and care, and providing recommendations for effective, patient-centered treatment. She has also published work in STAT and The Mighty. She served previously as an ambassador for the Chronic Disease Coalition. Reed earned a B.A. in government, centered on humanitarian and human rights law with a concentration in international relations, from California State University, Sacramento.
