Commonwealth Fund to Transfer WhyNotTheBest.org to IPRO

In January 2015, The Commonwealth Fund will transfer ownership and management of WhyNotTheBest.org, the health care quality improvement resource, to IPRO, a nonprofit health care quality improvement and evaluation organization based in New York.

IPRO developed WhyNotTheBest.org for The Commonwealth Fund in 2008 to help us test a theory: that making hospital performance data readily available and easy to use could both facilitate and spur efforts to improve U.S. health care. That experiment has been a success. Over the past five years, tens of thousands of health care professionals have used the website to compare hospital performance and access improvement tools. IPRO has been an outstanding partner in acquiring and vetting data, hosting the site, and providing technical assistance to users.

For all of you who rely on WhyNotTheBest.org for quarterly data updates, benchmarking, and tracking trends, nothing will change: the site will continue to be freely available to all. Starting next year, you will begin to receive email alerts announcing when new data are available from IPRO, instead of The Commonwealth Fund. Please be sure to add [email protected] to your address book, and please send any questions to [email protected].
