The Commonwealth Fund Senior Fellow in Behavioral Health Policy will support the Fund’s efforts to promote effective policy responses to the behavioral health crisis by leveraging its access to evidence and position as a trusted thought leader. Major fellowship activities will include: conducting policy development activities in priority areas, including the development of policy analyses and recommendations that align with the Fund’s priorities and values for each major upcoming policymaking window; convening a Behavioral Health Advisory Group of three experts to engage throughout the project; leading the Fund’s response to key policy opportunities, including RFIs, policymaker requests to meet with the Fund for input on policies under consideration, and the creation of public-facing written materials on emerging issues; consulting with Fund staff and grantees to contribute to the Fund’s internal capacity in behavioral health; and optional: leading a capstone convening that sets a vision for the future of the Fund’s behavioral health work, which would engage Fund staff and grantees, academics and policy influencers, and individuals with lived experience. Though priority policy areas for the Fellowship will evolve in response to policy windows, they are likely to include the integration of services and supports for maternal and child behavioral health, behavioral health in payment and delivery reform, enforcement of existing policies protecting access to behavioral health care, and engagement of public health in addressing the behavioral health crisis.
