Estimated Impacts of Accelerated COVID-19 Booster Vaccination & Review of Lessons Learned to Mitigate Emerging Diseases

For this project, continued work with the team at Yale will include two components: 1) an update of the booster analysis that the team conducted in July 2022, adjusted for a later start to the fall 2022 booster campaign and the availability of new variant-specific boosters, and 2) a review paper on lessons learned from the COVID-19 public health response that can be applied to other emerging infectious diseases. The review paper will touch on several key elements of the response — such as disease surveillance, use of nonpharmaceutical interventions, testing, and vaccine development and deployment — and will outline considerations and strategies for conducting these activities effectively during future pandemic preparedness and response efforts.
