Gulf States Newsroom will hire a reporter focusing on issues of reproductive rights and health through community engagement in the South over 12 months, exploring topics such as: how the loss of reproductive rights will affect other health outcomes — e.g., infant mortality, STD and HIV rates, and how wealth vs. poverty and rural vs. urban divide — affect health care access across the region; how further reduced access to necessary health care will endanger people whose pregnancies are at risk for complications — ectopic pregnancy, fetal anomalies, and miscarriages; and how people of color, the poor, and other marginalized groups bear the brunt of limited health care access and how this affects overall well-being in the region.
