Mandy K. Cohen, M.D., M.P.H., is the secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). Secretary Cohen and her team are focused on building a strong, efficient Medicaid program, improving early childhood health, safety and education and combatting the opioid crisis. Before coming to the NCDHHS, she was the chief operating officer and chief of staff at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. She is also an adjunct professor in health policy & management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. She received her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine and a master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
