A new Commonwealth Fund-supported analysis of Medicaid data finds that enrollment in Medicaid is much higher in states that have established their own health insurance marketplaces. In their study, researchers at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health highlight the importance of state marketplace decisions, especially for low-income individuals.
In a follow-up blog post, George Washington University’s Sara Rosenbaum looks at the proposal to shut down Kynect, the highly popular Kentucky health insurance marketplace, and replace it with the federal marketplace, HealthCare.gov. The state’s move may have the largest impact on its 550,000 Medicaid beneficiaries, because Kynect offers integrated Medicaid and marketplace enrollment.
