Health Minister Edith Schippers announced that health insurers will no longer be required to cover medical bills in full if patients go to a provider who is outside their health insurance network. This change aims to lower health care costs and comes out of ongoing negotiations between health insurers and the Dutch government. More expensive insurance policies that cover both in- and out-of-network care will be available for purchase. And insurance companies will be required to clearly explain to consumers which providers and hospitals they contract with.
