The NHS will begin to buy in bulk medical supplies and large medical equipment, such as CT scanners, MRI scanners, ultrasound machines, and cancer treatment technologies, in order to decrease costs. A £300 million cash fund has been established to jump start this new method of procurement. Buying in bulk is expected to save the NHS £1.2 billion over the next four years. Previously, there was little sharing of information about equipment needs among local hospitals.
