Prime Minister David Cameron announced a National Dementia Strategy to improve dementia care, awareness, and research in England, with plans to increase dementia research funding to £66 million by 2015. According to the Alzheimer’s Society, one in three people develop dementia in their lifetime, and within the next year the number of people living with dementia in the U.K. is expected to rise to 1 million, costing the NHS between £19–£23 billion a year.
