This project will promote a better understanding of the potential for narrowly defined, safe, and cost-saving drug importation (from Canada and other countries that currently manufacture drugs) for the U.S. market. The project has three aims: review current FDA/HHS importation concepts and proposals and their implications; summarize state interest in importation legislation and possibilities to address public health emergencies such as the opioid epidemic; and suggest actions Congress can take to facilitate state‐level importation.
