<p>In a new interview on the AHRQ Patient Safety Network website, Commonwealth Fund President David Blumenthal, M.D., talks about progress in health information technology in the decade since passage of the HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) Act and reflects on his time serving as National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.</p><p>In his wide-ranging conversation with Robert Wachter, M.D., chair of the department of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, Blumenthal calls HITECH an important first step in creating “digitized information on a massive scale.” They also discuss providers' adoption of electronic health records, the challenges of interoperability, and the role Silicon Valley will play in the future of digital health. </p>
