The Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy Is Open to Applicants

The Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy (formerly The Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy) is designed to prepare physicians for leadership roles in transforming health care delivery systems to improve access to high-quality care for minority, disadvantaged, and vulnerable populations. The fellowship is based at Harvard Medical School under the direction of Joan Reede, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.B.A., the dean for diversity and community partnership. Up to five one-year, degree-granting fellowships are awarded annually, with the potential for an optional second-year of practicum experience.

Fellows will: 1) complete academic work leading to a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree at the Harvard School of Public Health; and 2) be provided with core fellowship components such as seminars on leadership and health policy, a practicum, leadership forums, conferences, site visits, mentoring, journal clubs, and shadowing. The fellowship offers a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) degree at the Harvard Kennedy School to physicians already possessing an M.P.H. The fellowship also offers an optional second year of practicum experience, which fellows spend in a health care delivery system setting, a federal or state agency, or a policy-oriented institution.
