Opportunities and Threats to Home-Based Medical Care Under MACRA
<p>With increasing recognition of the value that home-based medical care provides, Johns Hopkins University’s Bruce Leff, M.D., and the University of California, San Francisco’s Christine Ritchie, M.D., consider the impact that the 2015 Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) could have on the accessibility and quality of home-based services in a new <em>To the Point</em> post.</p><p>While better financial incentives are needed to encourage more clinicians to enter home-based care, the MACRA payment system, the authors say, has the potential to hamper this growing field. That’s because the system penalizes health providers for using quality measures designed for specific patient populations, such as the homebound.</p>
