One of five American adults reports having trouble communicating with their doctors, while one of 10 reports being treated with disrespect during a health care visit. These statistics suggest that patients' needs are frequently not met in health care settings. The Fund's new Patient-Centered Primary Care initiative seeks to promote the redesign of physician practices and health care systems to improve patients' experiences.

New research will focus on the measurement of patient-centered care at the practice levels and the relationship between patient-centeredness and improved clinical outcomes. Policy analysis and demonstration projects will ensure that patients' interests are featured in quality improvement and efficiency initiatives.

If you'd like to receive information about projects and publications associated with this new initiative, which is being directed by Fund senior program officer Melinda Abrams, please send an e-mail to join-pati…; or visit our e-mail sign-up page.
