Physician Dissatisfaction: Diagnosis and Treatment

<p>So how are docs doing these days? Not so well, it seems. By some accounts American physicians are severely stressed and unhappy. In a new <em>To the Point</em> post, David Blumenthal, M.D., and David Squires explain that poor physician satisfaction could theoretically undermine their diligence, cognitive functioning, and relationships with patients—and possibly exacerbate a predicted physician shortage.</p><p>Yet the authors point to other studies and evidence indicating physicians are reasonably satisfied with their careers. Even if physicians are not in crisis, Blumenthal and Squires say there are a number of reforms that could improve their well-being.</p>
