Policy Prescriptions for High Drug Costs: Experts Weigh In
<p>The U.S. spends nearly double what other high-income countries spend per person on prescription drugs — a major driver of our high overall health care costs. In a new post on <em>To the Point</em>, the Commonwealth Fund’s Shawn Bishop describes policy options for getting pharmaceutical prices under control.</p><p>Drawing on three new <em>Health Affairs</em> papers supported by the Commonwealth Fund, Bishop describes approaches to increasing competition in drug markets, applying value-based purchasing, and protecting patients from high out-of-pocket costs.</p>
