Sustaining the State-Based Health Insurance Marketplaces

The Affordable Care Act provided significant start-up funds to help states set up their health insurance marketplaces. But after January 1, these marketplaces must be financially self-sustaining. <br /><br />
In a new blog post, the Alliance for Health Reform’s Sarah Dash and Kevin Lucia, Justin Giovannelli, and Sean Miskell of Georgetown University’s Center on Health Insurance Reforms look at how states are financing their marketplace operations and what factors might affect funding levels. <br />
<br />
“Going forward, the success of funding mechanisms is…likely to affect the level at which states can fund important marketplace functions, including consumer assistance and outreach,” the authors say.
