Thinking Outside the Mailbox When It Comes to Health Care Delivery

<p>Who would think of the postal service as a solution to problems in delivering health care? Local officials in Jersey, the island between France and England, have. In our new illustrated explainer, we show how a program is creatively repurposing an entrenched institution to provide care to a particularly difficult-to-reach group—the frail elderly.</p><p>With text by 2010–11 Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow Emma Stanton and illustrations by Glen Mullaly, the explainer describes in colorful detail how the “Call and Check” program deploys postal workers to provide isolated individuals with check-ins, appointment reminders, prescription drop-offs, and other services at low cost.</p>
