When it comes to bold health care legislation, time is a new president’s enemy, Commonwealth Fund president David Blumenthal, M.D., writes in a new To the Point post. Blumenthal says that the history of health care laws, including the passage of Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, underscores President Lyndon Johnson’s belief that presidents lose power each day they are in office.

“Johnson’s remarks carry huge potential significance for President Trump and his congressional allies if they are serious about replacing the ACA, not just repealing it,” he writes.
