Nathaniel Z. Counts, J.D., is chief policy officer at the Kennedy Forum, where he advances a public policy agenda which aims to ensure that all individuals have access to the treatment, services, and insurance coverage that meets their needs and the supports necessary to promote prevention, recovery, and mental well-being. He also is adjunct assistant professor of health policy and management at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Counts previously served as senior policy advisor for mental health to the Commissioner of Health for the City of New York, as well as senior fellow in behavioral health policy at the Commonwealth Fund. Prior to that, he was the senior vice president of behavioral health innovation for Mental Health America. His thought leadership and research has been published in journals such as JAMA Pediatrics, Lancet Psychiatry, and Nature Mental Health. Counts earned a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was a Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy Student Fellow.
