AHCJ Reporting Fellows Selected

Association of Health Care Journalists Fellows 2013

The Association of Health Care Journalists has awarded five journalists AHCJ Reporting Fellowships on Health Care Performance for work to be completed in 2015. The fellowship program is supported by The Commonwealth Fund.

  • Rick Jurgens, who covers health care for New Hampshire's Valley News, will focus on different approaches to health insurance coverage in New Hampshire and Vermont. 
  • Sarah Kliff, senior editor at Vox, will focus on fatal medical errors and what differentiates hospitals with high and low rates. 
  • Beth Kutscher, finance reporter for Modern Healthcare, will compare the financial performance of hospitals and hospital systems in Medicaid expansion states and nonexpansion states. 
  • Jayne O'Donnell, health care policy reporter for USA Today, will compare health care being provided in neighboring states that have and have not expanded Medicaid. 
  • David Wahlberg, health reporter at the Wisconsin State Journal, will focus on how well Wisconsin’s organ transplant system is working.
