Under a new payment model, general practitioners are being encouraged to treat patients outside of business hours to improve Australians’ access to primary care. On July 1, the Practice Incentives Program began providing five different incentive payment levels depending on the extra hours the practice provides. As part of the $98.8 million initiative, practices are required to communicate their hours and services to patients and register up-to-date details of their after-hours arrangements in the National Health Service Directory.
