Can a Dutch Import Transform Home Care in the U.S.?

seniors, elderly

Buurtzorg Nederland, a Dutch home-care organization, has garnered global attention for its innovative use of independent nurse teams in delivering high-quality, relatively low-cost care. A new Commonwealth Fund case study explores the Buurtzorg phenomenon, which grew from a single team in 2007 into a national organization that by 2015 employed 8,000 nurses on 700 teams. Authors Bradford Gray, Dana Sarnak, and Jako Burgers also examine early efforts under way in the United States and other countries to adapt the approach to local circumstances.
