McAllen Revisited: Tailored Solutions to High Spending Are Needed

Atul Gawande recently revisited his 2009 New Yorker article that focused a national spotlight on McAllen, Texas, where Medicare spending was much higher than the national average. In a new blog post, Dominique Hall of Partners Continuing Care Networks and Mark Zezza of The Commonwealth Fund share lessons from research conducted by Fund grantees at the University of Texas School of Public Health that identified the major drivers of both public and private spending in McAllen—where costs have since declined—and throughout Texas.
