Each year, some 40 percent of Medicare beneficiaries discharged from hospitals receive postacute care—rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and home health. A Commonwealth Fund–supported article (Health Services Research, Jan. 22, 2016) by Carrie Colla of Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and colleagues looked at the extent to which accountable care organizations (ACOs) are playing a role in ensuring appropriate use of these services.
