Swedish electronic health official Göran Stiernstedt has presented his final report on primary care in the country. Based on recent research, including the Commonwealth Fund’s international survey, the report notes that Sweden needs to improve coordination and continuity of health care. The proposals in the report aim to strengthen primary care through measures such as: having more local urgent care centers and compulsory referrals for visits to hospital emergency care units; redirecting resources from hospitals to primary care; and offering primary care to elderly people with high care needs.
