Even though one of five Medicare patients goes to a skilled nursing facility after a hospital stay, many receive little guidance about how to choose a facility. In a recent Commonwealth Fund–supported study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Emily A. Gadbois of Brown University’s School of Public Health and colleagues interviewed 98 patients about their experiences to identify ways hospital staff might help them choose.
