A recent Health Foundation report demonstrates the positive impact of care homes, as skilled and residential nursing facilities are known in the U.K., in reducing emergency department visits and hospital admissions. In the Principia Vanguard in Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, care home residents receive an “enhanced” care package—involving collaboration between clinicians, home care staff, and the charity sector—and had 23 percent fewer emergency department admissions and 29 percent fewer emergency department visits compared with residents in other areas.
