The Norwegian “Electronic Core Patient Journal” hit a milestone on March 1 when it enrolled all citizens (residents have the option to opt out). The national digital journal is not a complete electronic health record, but instead a summary that includes information on prescriptions, medical conditions, and current and historic referrals to specialist care. In addition, people can log in to the journal and add their own personal information. This initiative aims to increase safety and improve care quality by granting authorized personnel access to critical information about patients' health, regardless of where they seek care.
