Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau introduced legislation to legalize marijuana in early April. Yet Health Minister Jane Philpott responded to calls from some advocates and policy experts to legalize other illicit substances by saying more evidence would be needed before decriminalizing any other drugs. In a keynote speech at the Canada's Drug Futures Forum in April, Minister Philpot also spoke about her commitment to ending opioid overdose deaths and the importance of compassionate drug policy.
