In March, more than 300 people from 45 countries, including representatives of health ministries, the European Union, World Health Organization (WHO), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), World Bank, and other international organizations, gathered in Bonn, Germany, for a two-day Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety. At the summit the WHO launched its Global Patient Safety Challenge on Medication Safety, which aims to achieve a worldwide reduction of severe, avoidable medication-related harm by 50 percent in the next five years.
