U.K. National Health Service Looks to Home Care to Reduce Emergency Department Admissions

The U.K. Department of Health has pledged to reduce bed-blocking (when patients unnecessarily stay in the hospital due to lack of home care providers) in National Health Service hospitals by 3.5 percent through an increase in the number of such providers. This initiative comes in response to growing demand as well as patients’ concerns about delays in hospital discharge and gaps in support experienced after a hospital stay.
