Commonwealth Fund executive vice president and chief operating officer John E. Craig, Jr., calls for foundations to maintain their archives in a two-part blog post for the Foundation Center. In his first post, Craig reports on Commonwealth Fund survey findings that show only a minority of foundations maintain archives of their programs and activities, despite the great value of these records. "No history of the civil rights movement would be complete without access to the permanent records of the Ford Foundation," he writes. In the second post, Craig suggests ways to promote foundation archiving.
