In France, a program aimed at identifying effective practices that hospitals can implement to improve quality and cut costs presented the first wave of findings. The program, "Performance Hospitalière pour des Achats Responsables" (PHARE), presented 50 recommendations for ways that hospitals can make savings in such areas as medical device maintenance and repair, laundry services, furniture care, and laboratory supplies.
