The Care Quality Commission in the U.K. has announced that starting in 2013, GP practices in England will have regular inspections every two years. Practices will receive two days' notice prior to the inspection, but the inspections can happen without notice when concerns have been voiced. Inspectors will look at key standards regarding cleanliness and infection control, drug management, safety, availability and sustainability of equipment, and quality of service provision. The policy was first tested in a pilot program with 42 primary care providers before being expanded across the country.
