Increased Support for Dementia Patients in the U.K.

Several new projects aimed at improving care for dementia patients have been launched across the United Kingdom. In Scotland, every patient who is newly diagnosed with dementia will be given a year of support from specially trained providers. More than 100 of these "dementia champions" have been trained to work in hospitals across Scotland to help with frontline dementia care and education.

In England, the Department of Health is helping to fund the development of five innovative solutions to help improve the lives of those living with dementia. These solutions include a fragrance-release system to stimulate appetite, an online service that helps dementia caretakers manage their responsibilities, and a wristband that can send alerts to support services, among others.
