The New Zealand Ministry of Health has established a new agency charged specifically with promoting health and well-being and encouraging healthy lifestyles. The Health Promotion Agency (HPA) will combine the work of several agencies, with anticipated savings of NZ$7.5 million over four years. HPA, which recently appointed its board, will focus on reducing the social, financial, and health sector costs of smoking, skin cancer, gambling, poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyles, and alcohol abuse.
