New NHS Requirement Encourages Greater Transparency in Care

Starting in April, all National Health Service (NHS) organizations will be required to inform patients of any medical errors in their care and  take steps to prevent any future mistakes. Currently, providers have no contractual duty to tell patients that there has been a mistake in their care. The new requirement aims to increase transparency within the NHS and to ensure that staff are open with patients and work to prevent any repeat errors. The increased transparency should also strengthen patients' confidence in their NHS organization and encourage increased dialogue between patients and providers.
