Through its Partnership for Patients Initiative, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded $218 million to 26 "hospital engagement networks." These groups are charged with helping U.S. hospitals achieve a 40 percent reduction in hospital-acquired conditions among Medicare beneficiaries and a 20 percent reduction in hospital readmissions in just two years' time. The new issue of Quality Matters looks at the training these organizations are providing and early results. The issue also includes an interview with Intermountain Healthcare's Lucy Savitz, Ph.D., M.B.A., who is leading one of the engagement networks.
