Jennifer Dixon, M.B.Ch.B., of the Nuffield Trust in London and David Blumenthal, M.D., former chief health information and innovation officer at Partners Healthcare System in Boston and The Commonwealth Fund's incoming president, published an article in the Lancet, "Health-Care Reforms in the USA and England: Areas for Useful Learning." The article identifies major areas of reform where the two countries have common aims and may be able to learn from each other.
The article was developed by Dixon and Blumenthal following discussions about provider payment and delivery system reforms at the 2011 Commonwealth Fund–Nuffield Trust International Meeting. Since 1999, the Commonwealth Fund and Nuffield Trust have sponsored an annual meeting bringing together government officials, health researchers, and practitioners from the U.S. and U.K. for an exchange of ideas on quality improvement policies and strategies.
