A Strong Foundation for Improving U.S. Health Care

Last week, David Blumenthal, M.D., succeeded Karen Davis as president of The Commonwealth Fund. Blumenthal was most recently the Samuel O. Thier professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and chief health information and innovation officer at Partners Healthcare System in Boston. From 2009 to 2011, he served as the national coordinator for health information technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

In a new blog post, he reviews The Commonwealth Fund's achievements and the importance of building on the foundation's 95-year commitment to health care improvement. As Blumenthal writes, his principal focus will be to "make the very best use of our resources to ensure that the daily health care of Americans is as good and efficient as it can possibly be."
