In a Commonwealth Fund–supported study, researchers found no consistent evidence linking use of recommended drug therapies by diabetes or heart failure patients to levels of Medicare Part D spending in a given geographic region. In regions where spending was higher, there was better adherence to recommended medications, but not lower overall Medicare costs.
