Module 5: Anticipatory Guidance and Parental Education Tools

During the Healthy Development Collaborative, participating practices used two sets of anticipatory guidance and parent education tools. They are:

Connected Kids
Connected Kids: Safe, Strong, Secure is a set of resources developed by the Violence Intervention and Prevention Program, under the auspices of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Connected Kids provides pediatricians with guidance and patient-oriented materials to take an asset-based approach to violence prevention among children (instead of a deficit-based model) from birth through age 21. The program includes more than 20 handouts on topics such as bullying, discipline, interpersonal skills, parenting, suicide, and television violence. For more information or to access these resources, visit https://www.aap.org/en-us/advocacy-and-policy/aap-health-initiatives/Pages/Connected-Kids.aspx.

North Carolina, Assuring Better Child Health and Development Program (ABCD)
As part of the ABCD program, handouts to parents on what to expect at well-child visits were created. The handouts include advice on "What to Expect," and "How to Prepare," as well as "What to Keep in Mind" between visits. For more information or to access these resources, visit Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Online, or dbpeds.org. This Web-based resource offers practical materials to pediatricians interested in child development.
