Joseph J. Cordes, Ph.D., is professor of economics, public policy and public administration, and international affairs and codirects the Regulatory Studies Sector at the George Washington University. He is also currently an associate scholar in the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute. Previously, Cordes was a visiting fellow at the Urban Institute, deputy assistant director for tax analysis at the Congressional Budget Office, senior economist on the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Tax Reform project, and an economic policy fellow at the Brookings Institution. He has been a consultant to the Washington, D.C., Tax Revision Commission, the RAND Corporation, and numerous government agencies including the Congressional Budget Office, Internal Revenue Service Office of Research, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Research Council. Cordes earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
